“I’m a mommy…Mamacita!” Exciting news! This February, Cary and I became parents to the most precious little nugget: George Holson Brown. Don’t know how we got so blessed to have him in our lives!

He is almost 12 weeks and has learned responsive smiles and coos all the time. It’s amazing to see just how much they learn and grow in the first couple months. Honestly, it’s been a challenging 3 months of adjustment, but it’s also difficult remembering what our life was like before him. Sometimes I think about all the free time I had before he was born and I’m simply in awe. We were so spoiled before he arrived. Being a parent rocks your world in the best ways possible, but it also comes with new stressors, sleep deprivation, strict schedules, and very little time to reflect. I’m currently writing this while he naps and breaking the time-honored advice of sleeping while the baby sleeps. But carving out time to do the things you once did and/or enjoyed is imperative in surviving the postpartum period.

I shared a few weeks ago in an Instagram reel “10 truths for First Time Mommas”. And since Mother’s Day is fast approaching (aka this Sunday), I thought this would be fun to share on the blog too! So here are 10 bits of encouragement/wisdom for all you FTMs out there.
- You are not the same woman you were before birth, you’re stronger and more resilient!
- This version of you is NOT permanent.
- You are going to make mistakes, that doesn’t mean that you’re failing as a mom.
- Missing your life before kids doesn’t mean you don’t love this one.
- You are allowed to need and ask for help (and still be a fantastic mom)!
- Your baby doesn’t need perfection. they need YOU!
- The exhaustion you feel is real and it is not your forever reality.
- You are learning something new everyday, give yourself grace.
- One day you may miss the newborn stage, but you don’t have to love it today.
- Your body was your baby’s first home, treat it like the miracle that it is.
I’m daily reminding myself that George doesn’t need a perfect mom, he just needs me to show up on the daily and love him like Jesus would. Is it easy? Absolutely not! But is it some of the most rewarding work I’ve ever done? 1,000X yes!
Can’t wait to watch him grow, but for now, I’m savoring all the newborn snuggles.
