January 2022 Recap

Anyone else feel like January has been the longest month of their life?

Every year, the first month of the new year always drags on and on. Maybe because it’s new. Maybe because we don’t yet know what to expect. Maybe it’s because the holidays are over so there aren’t as many benchmarks to kind of break it up. Whatever the case, this month was interminable. We even had an ice storm in Myrtle Beach which is frankly unheard of. It was a January to remember, but I am thankful that the first month of the year has come and gone. Honestly, I feel like January can be a pretty debilitating month because everyone is trying to undo all their wrongs from the year before and get back into eating right and exercising regularly. Obviously with good intentions, but I think we should be always striving to be our best selves, not just because it’s a new year. I don’t like the pressure of January. So I’m looking forward to February with anticipation that there will be less pressure and more hope.

RECIPES I TRIED/MADE

Greek Sheet Pan Chicken Souvlaki via Half Baked Harvest

PLACE I TRAVELLED

Knoxville, TN: Went up to Tennessee twice this month to see family. It’s so much colder than it is here in South Carolina. Unfortunately, the visits haven’t been as long as I’d like but they have been sweet. Time with family is always never long enough!

Louisville, KY: Got to see Cary’s mom and dad for a few days before they move into their new home in Kentucky.

BOOKS I READ
Big Little Lies
The Power of Habit
The Last Things He Told Me
The Push
No Cure for Being Human

FITNESS UPDATE

Still loving Muscle Burns Fat Advanced by Beachbody. But this month I also really enjoyed going on outdoor walks. I don’t have a gym membership and I haven’t since 2020. But honestly I don’t even miss it, except for maybe the ellipticals and the stair stepper. But I love being active in new ways and doing lots of body weight and free weight exercises. For me, exercise isn’t about calories burned. It’s about doing something that feels good for my body. It’s about treating it with respect and loving it enough to want to be in shape and stay healthy. That’s a form of self-love that I always want to prioritize.
